Electoral Roll

The Electoral Roll is the official membership list of St. Mary’s as presented to the Diocese. If you are on the Electoral Roll, you are able to nominate, be nominated and vote for PCC and Deanery Synod membership. It is also a requirement should you wish to be married at St. Mary’s.

To qualify for admission on the Electoral Roll, you will either need to be a member of the Church of England living in the parish, a member of the Church of England not living in the Parish but having worshipped habitually in the parish for the 6 months prior to enrolment, or be a member in good standing of a church, not in communion with the Church of England, which subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity and also declare yourself to be a member of the Church of England and having habitually attended public worship in the parish for the last 6 months.

2025 is the year for the Electoral Roll renewal for St Mary’s. The renewal happens every 6 years and the last time was in 2019. Everyone who is presently on the Roll and who wishes to continue on the new Roll has to renew. There is no carry-over.

The Law requires that Roll has to be newly created and then published for 14 days before the Annual Parochial Meeting. Our Annual Meeting this year is to be held on 30th April. So we are asking everyone to apply for membership by 14th April. Any applications received after 14th April may not be added to the Roll until the following PCC Meeting.

Forms are available at the back of Church or alternatively you can download a form here and print/send it to The Electoral Roll Officer, St. Mary’s Church, Church Lane, Arnold. NG5 8HJ.

Electoral Roll admissions are considered at each PCC meeting.

Q&A The Electoral Roll and GDPR regulations:

The Electoral Roll contains only the name and address of individual members, and by inference their religious affiliation. The lawful basis for processing this personal data comes from the purposes for that processing, which is restricted to:

  1. Determine the eligibility for attendance at the Annual Parochial Church Council Meeting, for various elections and other church related matters;

  2. To create the Electoral Roll and administer the elections; and

  3. To publish the Electoral Roll.

Legally, these usage restrictions mean that no consent other than the applicant’s signature on the application form is required for the processing of personal data as listed above.
